About the Event
This is a new class. We will focus on armor making for HEMA, SCA, Larp, and similar activities in steel and relevant metals. You will be shown appropriate modern tools and techniques applicable to armor fabrication. We will help you develop patterns, cut material, solve problems, and design cuts for a water-jet or cut your parts in house on our cnc plasma cutter, (cnc cuts are billed seperately).
Armor making is extremely time intensive, you will not finish an article in one session. Expect to spend 15 to 15000 hours to complete your armor project, according to it's complexity.
The vast bulk of class will be spent working on your project.
We advise beginning by making a viking helm or chain-mail article.
We will support whatever type of armor project you wish to undertake in metal.
We will support your work as expert metalworking instructors, we are not expert armor makers, yet.
Steel materials will be provided at 1.50 per pound, allow 15-20 $ for materials for a helm or similarly sized project
This class will be offered on many successive Saturdays assuming there is interest
We will not be making blades or weapons in this class. There will be limited forging and hot work. We will use plasma cutters, manual and cnc, bandsaws, mig and tig machines, hammers, stakes, anvils, blocking and boughing equipment.
