About the Event
This class allows for students to learn real world skills at their own pace. We are offering this class as a drop in class with an informal curriculum to allow for flexible individual instruction and so that students do not have to adhere to a rigid schedule and can, instead, attend or not as they are able. Tuition is $100 per class, see ticketing for details.
We will not be following a progressive, linear format of instruction as this could create scheduling issues for people responding to the changing needs of the moment.
Students will be encouraged to submit their own ideas for projects and work in a self-directed fashion as much as possible. We encourage peer to peer learning and we support an egalitarian non-gendered work environment.
Students can expect to learn about welding, soldering, circuitry, sculpture, computer numeric control, layout and fabrication. We will periodically enlist experts, of a variety of genders to speak to the class about rocketry, combat robotics, aerospace welding and topics related to their fields of expertise.
Students will have access to 40 tons of Industrial tools in an extremely well ventilated 3000 sq foot space with 18 foot celings. Students will be able to use 22 pieces of welding equipment, a cnc plasma cutter, foundry, forge, cut-off saws and hand held plasma cutters.
The tuition includes all required gear, but students will be required to purchase their own safety glasses for $5. This is exclusively to ensure that they take care of their eyegear.
Tuition includes scrap material for welding. Pacific industrial on 1231 S Director St, Seattle, WA 98108 is six blocks from us, they sell most of the materialsl clients may require for projects.
Please check in with us as to the feasibility of a given project, some project will simply be beyond the scope of what can reasonably be attempted.
